Why do shipments get detained?
A shipment can be ‘detained’ (held for inspection/review) at the sole discretion of Sri Lanka Customs. In the event your package has been detained, a formal clearance process is needed.

This approval is needed for Medicine, Medical Instruments, Supplements, Cosmetics

NMRA has provided a blanket approval for consignments which contains not more than twelve (12) per item based on personal use and it can be used for clearance if the contents are within the said limits.

If the shipment is a commercial shipment or is of high value, customs may require proof of payment (i.e. proof of remittance from your bank). A Bank Endorsement needs to be obtained from your bank.
The consignee is expected to have the import documents (Invoice of merchandise) endorsed bythe relevant bank that was used for transferring the payment
If there is no foreign remittance involved, an NFE Approval will be required in order to avoid paying any penalties imposed by Sri Lanka Customs.
If a shipment is to be cleared on “No Foreign Exchange” basis, Import Control Department approval is required

This approval is needed for all food items
At a service fee we can obtain approval from the Food Inspector located at the Air Cargo Village on your behalf. The FITS Express Brokerage team will declare the shipment to the food inspector & obtain the approval on behalf of the consignee. Fits Express will charge an additional service fee of Rs 1,000 for this service.

This approval is needed for items which are held for valuation.
At a service fee we can obtain approval from the Valuation officer located at the Air Cargo Village on your behalf. The FITS Express Brokerage team will declare the shipment to the valuation inspector & obtain the approval on behalf of the consignee. Fits Express will charge an additional service fee of Rs 1,000 for this service.
